ABOUT VERONA
Verona was born in Punto Fijo at the end of 2000 under the initial formation of Chevy (guitars and vocals), Atari (guitar and back vocals), Paul (bass guitar) and Eduardo (drums). Their first live presentation was as guests in a known regional festival called Equipa tu Banda organized by a local radio station.
During October of the following year, Verona decided to record their first two singles as a band. These songs would end up becoming a part of their first EP titled Delirium. The EP contained 5 songs, three of them were former recordings made by Chevy, including the song Make a Wish. Delirium was the first single to be released and it was played by several well known by local radio stations, being well received by the region's audience. By the end of 2001, the band moved to the country's capital in search of new opportunities with the purpose of getting out the name of the band nation wide.
In 2002 the band took a break due to different obligations of each member, but they were soon reunited in a festival in Caracas called Jim Morrison. This was their first live presentation in the city of Caracas.
The following year was a very busy one for the band: Paul left for personal reasons and Adolfo Alcala replaced him. After this, Verona changed its rhythm and found the path to establish itself into the underground movement in the city. That same year they played in the Alma Mater festival, which left a very good impression in the audience and opened the doors to new presentations in the town. Example of this was their performance during the qualifications of the Circuito Nuevas Bandas, one of the most important band circuits in Venezuela.
In order to promote their music and give more information about them, Atari designed their web page, http://www.verona.com.ve, which was nominated two years in a row to Lo Mejor de la Web awards. To finish the year 2003, the band would recruit a new member, Ray, who replaced Adolfo after his departure for academic reasons. Soon after, the band started the production of their first LP, titled Summer Consequence. It was produced by Verona and their first bass player Paul Jatem. It was released on May 20th 2004.
Summer Consequence consists of 11 songs, two of them -Make a Wish and Delirium- from the first EP, re-mastered. This production made a big impression among the specialized critics. The web site www.musica.com.ve classified it as one of the best albums nation wide, and the Rolling Stone Latin America magazine wrote about them in two opportunities. One of those was to include them as one the best 50 albums of the year.
Closing 2004, Verona begins the making of their first music video. The chosen theme was Beautiful, Summer Consequence's first single. The direction was managed by Atari, Vanessa Henriquez and VJ Zion. The release date of the video was during the first week of June 2005 and got airtime on national television.
On late 2005, Verona went back to the studio to begin the recording of their second album: Anywhere. This new album included special guests singers, such as Hakan Lofdahl (singer of the Swedish band The Last Hours) and Jean Carlo de Oliveira (singer of the Venezuelan band Candy66).
Anywhere was mixed by Jean and Hakan. The first single, Mark of Excellence, was released on May 2007 and got airtime nation wide. It became a part of the regular programming of the most famous radio in the country, which played the song everyday nation wide. Thanks to their first single, Verona became the first Venezuelan English singing band to get this kind of privileges. Because of the countries laws, local bands have to follow certain rules in order to get airtime, which includes singing in Spanish. Airtime in the country is divided in two, 70% Spanish singing national bands and 30% for other languages, which is always used for international bands. Verona's Mark of Excellence was included in that 30% competing then with the best bands around the world. Mourning Days followed Mark of Excellence's footsteps and also received airtime as Anywhere's second single.
On October 5th 2007, Verona won an URBE award for "Best Non-Capital Band". This means Verona was nominated and voted by the public as the best band in Venezuela that was not from Caracas. Verona could not compete in the nomination for "Best Capital Band" since all band members are from another state.
On March 20th 2008, "Anywhere" was officially released and is currently being sold around the country and on the web. This album consists of 12 tracks and you can get a copy at Amazon.com, iTunes Store or by contacting us at info@verona.com.ve.
